I am in process of digesting their full-length "Hometowns", and shall i say "Indie-Rock ROCKS". "The Rural Alberta Advantage" hit us with the trio's Neutral Milk Hotel pop and detailed narratives of his Alberta roots. While it seems almost necessary to toss in a Sufjan reference when you talk about the subject matter. Instead of calculated, over thought, lush compositions, The Rural Alberta Advantage prefers energetic, spontaneous, spare arrangements with just enough shocks and surprises to keep you guessing....whats next to continue?! Between the amusing sound acoustic guitars can make, unstoppable energy flowing and the fun their music bring to us, i dare to stay, Hometows is one of the best indie-rock albums for 2008.

Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (2008)

"Crystal Castles", the name comes, just imagine, from 1984 Atari adventure game called Crystal Castle, and this is how indie music website Pitchfork described the music style "pitch-shifted vocal snippets [that] ricochet like pinballs around Crystal Castles' patented 8-bit synths", what else can i say...a new point of view through electronic music.They have two faces, the first one is that their tracks were made from Crystal Castles everyone has heard about, they describe their style as "thrash/thrash/thrash" and routinely cause riots at their live performances. The other Crystal Castles face on display here are better suited for post-rave chillout listening, no resemblance to their psyche-smashing alter-ego. 16 tracks, it's just too much in the album, this one could have easily been cut down into something truly mind-blowing. Either way, the result is like playing Mario inside a disco....extremely enjoyable!

Welcome to the strange world of Ophelia Dax here known as Leandra from German lands. Leandra style lead us to a complex definition as the sound is covered with multiple influences. I experience “Metamorphine” as a minimalist, but enchanting ethereal souvenir reminding me to a softer level of last year's revelation Elsiane, flying through trip-hop, classic and also with a very good level of gothic powder. Cloud Cult - Feel Good Ghosts (2008)

Minneapolis based Cloud Cult returns for their sixth album, self-titled "Feel Good Ghosts" (Tea-partying Through Tornadoes). Despite the fact i'm a huge fan of them, it's not surprisingly that the new album is awesome, it promises to be as progressive as it is diverse, instrumentaly, originality, creativity...there's no one better to mix acoustic and electric guitar with soft and hard voices between sampling, drums, bass, violins and many other. Yoav - Charmed And Strange (2008)

Yoav, Israel to a Romanian father nationality, migrated to South Africa as a child, before trying his luck as a troubadour in London, New York and Canada. It was while in New York that he hit upon the style he's now peddling: melancholic acoustic ballads tempered by guitar based percussion, with the help of loops and effect peddles. It has a voice capable of all things: he sounds just as good singing in falsetto as in a gravelly, crooner-ish voice. But his appeal is far more than that, his instrumentation is powerfully compelling. Again, this is someone whose band consists of his guitar and a pedal and yet, some of his songs manage to have atmospheric, mysterious power.
"Charmed and Strange" is gorgeously enjoyable, with the guitar stretching out to nearly violin sadness at some times, and reaching up to vivid heights of happiness and others. The beats that Yoav drums out of his guitar are extremely confident, listening to the album feels like diving into a lush sonic jungle with spots of sunshine and sadness, with colors and shadows. At the end the effect is complex, rejuvenating, and strange comparative from almost anything else you've heard before. Charmed and Strange, was made by Yoav and guitar and it's perfect to begin the year of 2008. The effect is strange, to be sure, but also appropriately charming.

On first view, Robots in Disguise, Dee Plume and Sue Denim, are pictured on the sleeve of "We’re in the Music Biz" wearing the regulation tight shirts and skinny ties of new wave. Short, sharp and right to the point, this is Robots In Disguise way of living, back with their third album to create more electro punk mayhem. Smart, sharp insider's perspective on planet pop, welded to a jagged yet sugary sound which combines the best bits of Chicks on Speed, Bloc Party and Elastica And the bitchier they get, the more brilliant We're in the Music Biz becomes. So is We're In The Music Biz distinctive enough and entertaining for sure, just when you think it's all surface, shows surprising depth and a streetwise attitude. It's a joy!

Operator Please - Yes Yes Vindictive (2008)

In an era where the future of rock supposedly consists of kids growing their fringes and documenting their angst, Operator Please are a big, coloured explosion on the horizon. Australian pop rock band Operator Please compose perfect pop nuggets and rolling, swirling, indie anthems, Operator Please have taken giddy excitement to new levels, youthful enthusiasm carries the day here and if most of the songs are genially direct without digging deep then the band's lack of guile makes the pleasure easy to embrace.
In one dose, "Yes Yes Vindictive" tries to remember the good times Yeah Yeah Yeahs brought to us with their frenetic rock. It's lived, funny and enjoyable to hear and dance by the sound of the new kind of youth rock. There's enough to keep them in the game of growing up successfully in public.

The Do - A Mouthful (2008)

The Do have no afraid about wearing their musical influences on their sleeve. Take a first look to "A Mouthful" and you’ll get a taste of the flavour of Blonde and Cocorosie. But the overriding influence that runs through out The Do’s debut album is Iceland’s alternative pop princess Bjork. They share Bjork’s off-the-wall originality and have taken a leaf out of the Icelandic diva’s music book, smashing down barriers between genres to forge their own unique sound. Dan Levy, The Do’s talented multi-instrumentalist, and singer Olivia B Merilahtin originally hooked up two years ago to work together on the soundtrack to a feature film. Their creative partnership blossomed from there and the duo went on to write the soundtracks for two other movies, François Rotger’s The Passenger and Christophe Ali’s Camping sauvage. They have also created stage music for a number of contemporary dance troupes.
“A Mouthful” is a delightful genre fusion album that is full of so many different twists, turns and crunches you'll never know what you are going to get here in this set. Just music that has the need to be heared and learned...how all music should be.

Working For A Nuclear Free City - Business & Ghosts (2007)

The beauty of "Working For A Nuclear Free City", their last album, with its ability to visit a myriad of sounds while still remaining cohesive and controlled "Business & Ghosts" comes now as a refreshing split into the “official” album "Businessmen", and a collection of B-sides, outtakes, and various other tracks that didn’t quite make the cut over the years in "Ghosts".
"Businessmen" is an album of diversity. "Ghosts", on the other hand, is purely electronic and ambient. Here dwell tracks that are perhaps more unfocused than those in "Businessmen", but if you’ve enjoyed the ride so far you won’t be exiting just yet. The band's best bass-driven dancefloor bangers and stately, textured landscapes are all here.
If you’ve liked Radiohead’s electronic sides, Explosions in the Sky’s more ambient work, or any sort of genre-bending such as electronic, instrumental, zouk, shoegaze, post-rock and alternative, get this album. Working For A Nuclear Free City is prepping for their storm, and it will be severe. So breath the air, and enjoy what’s coming. Too good to be lost...

Radical Face - Ghost (2007)

In comparison to the project focused on muted indie pop called Electric President where this project continually reminds you of digital nature of the production, with its glitchy beats and cut-up instruments, Radical Face is where Ben Cooper (member of duo Electric President and Radical Face) indulges his more trad songwriting ambitions. So"Ghost" becomes a songwirter album, or rather, a song-writing album, with tracks carefully arranged interiors, chamber folk, pockep symphonies and passionate melodies. He Let the instruments tale a deep breath and created a breathing record, a lively, warm Ghost.
