Elsiane - Hybrid (2007)

Elsiane are Elsieanne Caplette & Stephane Sotto rums). Their music is electronica, trip hop that recalls the best times of Broadcast, Bjork, Portishead plus styles of world beats, ambience, jazz and even some classical and world music thrown in for good measure, in the album "Hybrid" that saw the light in this 2007. But it's Elsieanne's voice that rings pure, loud and clear that will dazzle you. In reality, they really defy categorization...this is just one album that demands to be heard for any lover of good, good music.

Apparat - Walls (2007)

For his latest full-length album, Berlin's Sascha Ring has come closer than ever to integrating traditional songwrting into modern electronic sound design. "Walls" is an album that pulls together vocals, strings and dense layers of laptop composition, propped upright by a glistening array of cutting edge beats. After the introductory digital atmospherics of 'Not A Number', the first real indication of this album's direction arrives in the form of 'Hailin' From The Edge', an unexpected move into soulful hip hop electronics. Next up, 'Useful Information' and 'Limelight' show a return to more established Apparat territory. These productions point to the kind of widescreen electronica with which Ring made his name, a reminder that whatever new genres he might experiment with, there's always a strength of technique at his disposal. Recent single 'Holdon' is one of four tracks here to feature the vocals of Raz Ohara, whose presence clearly displaces Ring from his familiar Apparat comfort zone. This track in particular marks a new, more streamlined approach to beat programming, which comes across as comparatively organic in this instance. As the album develops the scale seems to swell : there's an post-rock/hip hop crossover in 'Arcadia', and later on comes 'Headup', which sounds like a shift into miniature stadium rock, complete with swathes of laptop textures only serving to accentuate the epic proportions of this ambitious album. Apparat transcends the downbeat limitations of the incipient form with astonishing grace.

Cloud Cult - The Meaning Of 8 (2007)

For all that's inspiring true and diverse in the music industry and all its waves, "Cloud Cult" has been creating for nearly a decade.

Melting the genres of all mankind's music with intelligible creation and songwriting, Cloud Cult has a knack for catchy rhythms of diverse instrumentation. Whether its something perfected, or they we're born into is not for me to say.

Songs like Pretty Voice subtlely build tempo between lyrical and instrumental harmony. Then of course there's the following track Brain Gateway that gorge a different brand of Cloud Cult, brash and aggressive, bellowing and bold, like the sweet little boy who shows up to a party shy, but by the end of the gathering winks at you with a confidence in such a different style.

Goodbooks - Control (2007)

Goodbooks, an Indie-Rock-Elektro band that appears in the british indie hype. Started with the edition of several singles since 2005 and the nowadays, when they appear with the debut album "Control". This one was produced by Dan Grech-Marguerat, and recorded at RAK studios in London. The album includes pre-recordings of some of their past singles such as the single "Walk With Me", also the "Turn It Back" as well as the previous EP entitled "Leni" and at last the one called "The Illness". They are now called as the "Best New Band In Britain" but will they live the days of greatness as in their first appearence like Bloc Party? Goodbooks will have to build their way throught the indie scene while bands like Bloc Party gained the reputation in the debut album.

Maps - We Can Create (2007)

A hugely ambitious, widescreen and epic record that recalls everything from the far away electronics of Basic Channel and Carl Craig, through the skewed songwriting of Postal Service, Flaming Lips and Grandaddy to the euphoric sound-scapes of Sigur Ros and Death In Vegas, "We Can Create" is a work of heart stopping extremes.
The other-worldly atmospherics of "Maps" are even more amazing for the fact that James Chapman recorded the whole album without computers, preferring the painstaking process of splicing sounds together on his battered album recorder in his Northamptonshire bedroom.
A trip between what's best of Indie-Rock, one of the best albuns this year in this music style, remembering "Electric President" in their debut album.
